When your audience is online

Updated on Nov 1, 20262 minute read

The Hours tab of Metrics shows on which days and hours your followers are on Instagram and when comments and DMs arrive. It is for Owners and Admins, on every plan. On a profile with Instagram and TikTok, you pick the network at the top of the page. On TikTok, the map counts the comments on your videos; when your followers are online comes from Instagram only, and TikTok has no DMs in Postato.

When your audience is online

The map shows, by weekday and hour, the average number of followers online over the last 30 days. The number is Instagram's. Postato reads it once a day and shows everything in the account's time zone, which you change in Settings.

Average
the note under the map says how many weeks entered and how many days had data.
Empty space
when Instagram gives no number for an hour or a day, the map leaves that space dashed. Empty is not zero.
Fewer than 100 followers
Instagram does not give this number, and the tab says so.
Clock changes
when the clock changes in the United States or in your time zone, an hour can be missing on that day. If an hour from Instagram is left out, the note under the map says so.

The sentence above the map only appears when the numbers hold it, with at least 14 days of data and an hour that stands out from the others. If none stands out, it says that.

When comments and DMs arrive

The second map is counted by Postato instead of coming from Instagram. It adds up what you received over the last 30 days, or since the account was connected, if that is more recent.

Comments
comments and replies from other people on your posts.
DMs
messages, story replies and story mentions.
Left out
your own replies, automatic messages and anything deleted.

With fewer than 30 comments or DMs in those days, it shows the numbers without pointing to an hour.

What the numbers do not say

The maps show when people are on Instagram and when they write to you. They do not say what a post at that hour will bring. To compare your posts, use the Posts tab.
