The "comment I WANT IT" automation

Updated on Oct 16, 20262 minute read

With an automation, people who comment a keyword on a post get a short reply to their comment and a message in their DMs, without you opening Instagram.

How to create one

  1. In the panel, open Automations and tap New automation.
  2. Choose where it listens: a specific post, any post or the next post you publish.
  3. Write the keywords, like I WANT IT, recipe or link. Choose whether the comment has to contain the word, be exactly the word or mean the same thing (then AI also recognizes other ways of asking).
  4. Write the public reply. You can add a few variations: Postato picks one at random so it does not repeat the same sentence.
  5. Write the DM, with the link. Use {name} to call the person by name.
  6. Turn the automation on. It starts off and only applies to comments that arrive after it is on.

Rules that always apply

  • One DM per person in each automation, even if they comment again.
  • Up to 7 days: Instagram only lets you answer a comment by DM within 7 days.
  • Limits: DMs count toward your plan's automated DM quota, and Postato sends at most 750 an hour per account.
  • Pauses on its own: if Instagram limits the account, automations pause and resume when the limit is over.

The automation needs Instagram's messaging permission. If the panel asks, reconnect the account in Settings, Connections.

Other triggers

Besides comments, an automation can answer a keyword sent by DM, replies to and mentions in your Stories, a person's first DM and DMs that arrive outside your opening hours.

Automations only work on Instagram. On TikTok, Postato reads and answers comments, with no DMs.
